Academic Support

Success Coaches: NOVA Online Success Coaches work one-on-one with students to help them navigate the semester successfully. Coaches can help students utilize campus supports, develop successful study strategies, stay organized, and provide referrals to academic support and college resources. They can also help students develop a study routine and improve time management skills, provide regular check-ins to help students stay accountable and on track. NOVA Online Counselors offer onboarding, academic, and transfer planning to online students. They also assist students by addressing issues that may interfere with their academic and personal responsibilities and connect them to resources/services for further support. Student Lingo 24/7 Online Workshops: Student Lingo provides on demand workshops available 24/7 on topics such as Exam preparation, time management, procrastination, tips for success in college, testing anxiety and more. You will also find a helpful online orientation specific to NOVA Online with student testimonies, links to our supports, resources, policies, student life and other important information to help you succeed at NOVA.  

NOVA Libraries: NOVA Online libraries are available virtually or you can visit a library in person. A librarian will be happy to help you locate the perfect book for your research project, walk you through using the scholarly finding journal articles. There is also an inter-library loan program, and study rooms in the campus libraries. You can also find many tutorials on citing, research and more on their website. A link is also available in your Canvas class.  

Tutoring: All NOVA campuses provide virtual or in person tutoring, by appointment, during regular business hours. NOVA also offers virtual tutoring, 24/7 through Tutor.com. You can access tutor.com, log into your class where you will see a link on the left margin, ‘24/7 tutoring’.

Virtual Advising: Virtual Advisors are available online by a live webchat and Zoom Lobby. They help students with course selection, changing or declaring a major and pre-requisite waivers. Advisors are also available on each campus.

Career Services

The College is committed to providing career services to all students as part of the comprehensive educational journey. Career Services assists students with exploring, developing and setting goals related to each student’s unique educational and academic needs. These services include career assessments, occupational information, goal setting, planning and employment resources. You can request an appointment with a career counselor.

Financial Stability and Advocacy Centers

The Financial Stability and Advocacy Centers provide assistance to students who are experiencing financial hardships that might prevent the students’ academic success. The personnel at the Financial Stability and Advocacy Centers work with students to identify college or community services available. Nighthawk Nest Food Pantries

Food Pantries are located on every NOVA Campus. The mission of NOVA's Food and Personal Care Pantry is to provide easy, on-campus access to free food and personal care products to students, faculty and staff. NOVA is committed to fighting hunger and food insecurity so that our students can focus, get better grades, and maintain good physical and mental health. Technology Resources

Frequently Used Student Software

Office 365 (PC and Mac): NOVA students have access to Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus for free. Microsoft Office 365 is a subscription-based cloud service and is only free while a student. Access Office 365 and other software by going to the Student Software website.

Google Apps: Your VCCS email is packaged with Google Apps, including Docs, Slides, Calendar, etc. You may check out the main features you have available to use by visiting the Google Apps for Education website.

Zoom: Zoom is an audio and video web conferencing tool. It also can be used to record a presentation. Visit the Zoom Instructions for Students to understand how to access the tool and join a meeting. Here are the video tutorials on Zoom.

IT Support

NOVA Online IT Team: If you have computer, mobile, or other hardware and software issues, visit  NOVA Online IT Support.

IT Help Desk: Password resets and other technical issues, visit the IT Help Desk website, where you can submit a ticket.

Office of Wellness and Mental Health

During your time at NOVA, you may experience challenges including struggles with academics, finances, or your personal well-being. NOVA has support resources available. Please contact the Office of Wellness and Mental Health if you are seeking resources and support, or if you are worried about a friend or classmate.

Timely Care TeleHealth

At NOVA, we care about your emotional and physical well-being. In addition to our Office of Wellness and Mental Health, NOVA provides TimelyCare which is a free telehealth program for students that provides 24/7 access to virtual mental health care from anywhere in the U.S. If you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or are struggling with other mental health issues, you can talk to a licensed provider during secure video visits from your smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer.
