Overview |

Analyzes military campaigns of the Civil War, including factors contributing to the defeat of the Confederacy and problems created by the war. May include field trips to Civil War sites in the region.
Preferable, but not mandatory, that students complete History 121 prior to enrollment. Ability to use the English language effectively at the college level is expected. |

Objectives |

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Interpret the Civil War era in the larger context of American history.
- Analyze the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on the development of American economic, social and political institutions while focusing on military aspects of the war.
- Discuss the emancipation of the slaves, and analyze its long term consequences for American race relations. Identify and discuss the causes, key events, and consequences of the Civil War.
- Describe the military developments (campaigns, technology, strategy) during the war and explain the war's outcome.
