ENGLISH 111/9
EXAM 2
Instructor:
Julie
Peluso
Course created by Dr. Diane Thompson, NVCC, ELI
Exam 2 will ask you to write an essay: "Classroom
vs. Distance Learning--Which is Better for You?" You will write this
essay for a person you know who is thinking about going back to college and
wondering if distance learning would be appropriate, or if he/she would be
happier in a classroom. You should draw on your own experiences as well as
your knowledge of the needs and problems being dealt with by the person you
are writing this for.
The Observation
Diary and Plan Sheet will be the
basis for your essay. The essay itself MUST address the person
described in the plan sheet and must deal with his/her specific issues as well
as your own experiences with distance learning. The easiest way to
write the essay would be as a letter addressed to the person you
analyze in the plan sheet.
You will make a copy of the Observation
Diary and Plan Sheet and send it to
Julie
Peluso as an email. Do not
attach it; just do a copy/paste. I do not open email attachments. You
may bring your own copy of the Observation Diary and Plan Sheet to the
Testing Center.
Wait for my response to this planning
material before going to take the exam. I will not accept the essay
exam UNLESS you
have already submitted the planning materials to me and received my
response to them along with your grade for the planning material.
|
Your essay should be at least 500 words long; it may be
longer. Bring the following to the Testing Center of your choice:
Your exam pass and a photo
ID |
Your emplid (student ID
number) |
A copy of your approved plan sheet
for the essay |
Hacker for grammar reference (optional) |
A College Dictionary (optional) |
You will write this essay in the
Testing Center on a word processor and then copy/paste it to a Blackboard
testing site message box.
Because the format will be lost when you paste
it, you must indicate each paragraph start with a capital P, so that I
can reformat your essay as I read it. |
There is no time limit, so go to the Testing Center
early enough to allow yourself plenty of time. You may use a dictionary or
your English Handbook.
I will mail your grade to you with my comments on your exam. Allow about two
weeks for turnaround. You will not receive the exam back.
You must pass both Exam 2 and Exam 3 with a grade of
60% or better in order to pass the course.
Exam 2 Grading Criteria:

and approved before you take the exam. |
