Art 100 presents an introductory survey highlighting major artists and artistic developments in world culture.  The approach can be chronological or thematic with special emphasis given to art terms and the media and techniques of the visual arts.  The principles of art and the functions of design will be discussed as well as the cultural and social forces at work in the development of art.  The underlying purpose of this course is to assist the student in developing an appreciation of man's creative impulse as it has been expressed through our heritage of the visual arts. This course introduces art from prehistoric times to present day. It describes architectural styles, sculpture, drawing, photography, printmaking, painting techniques, and a variety of other minor arts.
