Research shows that distance learning students are most successful when they start their course work on time and make steady progress. Under COURSE SUMMARY at the bottom of the Syllabus, you will find the assignment due dates specific to your particular session of ART 105.  Due dates end at 11:59 PM.  Remember that the schedule is designed to keep you on track and optimize your success on the four proctored assessments. Do not attempt to take more than one assesment at the same time, or on the last day of enrollment.

It is your responsibility to be aware of all Critical Dates for your session of ART 105:

You are required to complete at least one (1) assignment (your Letter of Introduction posted on the Discussion Board fulfills this requirement) by Any One Assignment Due Date

If you have not submitted at least Module 1 Discussion Board and Quiz, Module 2 Discussion Board and Quiz, and Proctored Exam 1 by the Last Withdrawal Date, you are not making sufficient progress in the course.  This is the last date you can withdraw yourself from the course with the grade of W and no refund.   If you remain in the course past the Last Withdrawal date, you must accept your final letter grade earned at the End Date (a.k.a. End of Enrollment) – in other words, you no longer have the option of withdrawing after this date.

Upon completion of the course you are asked to fill out a short online COURSE EVALUATION  (a link with availability dates will be posted on Announcements).  This provides both NOVA Online and your instructor with valuable feedback which we use to improve the course.

Your course grade will be determined by your scores on required assignments in the table below. There are also 2 optional opportunities to earn extra credit, 20 pts. each, for a total of 40 possible extra credit points.*

NOVA Online courses have a requirement for proctored assessments to maintain compliance with our accreditation standards and the Higher Education Act’s identity verification requirements for online courses. College-wide, proctored assessments prove identity so students must show overall passing levels on the proctored assessments in order to pass an online course. In this online course, the average of all proctored assessment scores must be a passing percentage (60 percent) in order for you to pass the course regardless of your scores on other graded activities. Please contact your instructor if you require any clarification on this proctored assessment policy.

There are a total of 1000 possible points for the required work in the course (plus any earned optional extra credit):

Assignment Points Each Total Possible Points

Letter of Introduction

20 20

8 Module Quizzes

15 120

4 Proctored exams 100 400
Museum Curator Project 200 200

Your course grade will be based on the following scale. You can compute your own final course grade percentage, it is a simple calculation: take your total points and divide by 1000 (total possible points for required assignments) to get the percentage.
Grade Points Percent
A 900-1000 90-100%
B 800-899 80-89%
C 700-799 70-79%
D 600-699 60-69%
F 0-599 0-59%

If you have not submitted at least Module 1 Discussion Board and Quiz, Module 2 Discussion Board and Quiz, and Proctored Exam 1 by the Last Withdrawal Date, you are not making sufficient progress in the course.  This is the last date you can withdraw yourself from the course with the grade of W and no refund.   If you remain in the course past the Last Withdrawal date, you must accept your final letter grade earned at the End Date (a.k.a. End of Enrollment) – in other words, you no longer have the option of withdrawing after this date.

If you are making progress in the course but the End of Enrollment Date is near and documented extenuating circumstances are preventing you from completing all of the course requirements, you may request a grade of I ( Incomplete).  See the information on requesting an Incomplete below.  If there are extenuating circumstances preventing you from meeting any of the deadlines or completing your requirements for the course, contact your instructor ASAP.
