Course Description
This course presents an overview of various aspects of Deaf Culture, including educational and legal issues, and examines the history of the Deaf Community. This course will cover the following topics:
- Historical perspectives on deafness
- The social identity of Deaf people
- Language and communication
- Historical and current events that shape the Deaf community
- An overview of the folklore and literature
- Deaf educational options and their impact on Deaf children
- Historical and Current Legislation affecting the Deaf community
- Global perspectives on deafness
Prerequisite:
Students should have completed ENG 111 or be concurrently enrolled. Students will be expected to
utilize effective writing and grammar skills.
