Work in this course will require your participation in a variety of ways. First, the course is writing intensive with assignments ranging from short paragraphs to longer, more formal multi-page papers. You will also maintain a journal in which you relate course content to your field experiences and the development of a personal perspective on teaching. There will be a mid-term which will be open book. You will be expected to develop a Professional Portfolio.  Last, you will have an evaluation from the classroom teacher supervising your field placement.

The assignments that will contribute to the final grade in the course are indicated on the Class Schedule.

Major grades consisting of the following items will be averaged together to determine your final grade for the course.

 Field Placement

Students must be able to pass a background check in order to complete the field placement. Students must spend 20 hours in a public Title I school or with an ESOL teacher. Students who do not receive a positive evaluation on the field placement will not pass the course.

The student must earn a combined average of at least 60% on the Field Placement activities and have an overall course average of 60% to pass the class.
