Course Grading

Your course grade will be determined by your performance on the following assignments:

*75% combined average required to pass the course

Grade Scale

NOVA Online proctored or major assessments are required to maintain compliance with our accreditation standards and the Higher Education Act’s identity verification requirements for online courses. College-wide, proctored or major assessments must prove identity. To accomplish this in online courses, students must show overall passing levels on the proctored or major assessments in order to pass the course.

In this online course, if your average score on all proctored or major assessments is a passing percentage of 75 percent or higher, then your grade will be calculated according to the scale in the table below. Otherwise, a final grade of F will be assigned.

Your final grade will be based on the scale listed below. Please note that in order to pass this course, you must earn at least a 75% average for both class assignments and the course exams.

Grade Criteria Percent
S - Satisfactory The student has successfully passed the course and is ready for the next level. 75-100%
R - Re-enroll The student has made progress but still needs more work at this level.
 59-74%
U - Unsatisfactory The student did not successfully complete the requirements for the course due to one or more of the following reasons:
  • The majority of the work did not demonstrate sufficient mastery of the course content
  • The student missed more than four classes
  • The student did not participate regularly in graded assignments. (0-58%)
  • The student failed to withdraw before withdrawal deadline. ESL students receive a U for failure to withdraw, not an F.
