If you complete this course and do well, you will be able to:

1. Listening. Students will be able to understand simple questions, short sentences and commands using learned vocabulary in context.

2. Speaking. Through basic communicative exchanges with partners and the instructor, students will be able to communicate on a basic level, which includes posing simple questions and answering questions. These exchanges may include autobiographical information and contextual situations pertinent to each chapter.

3. Reading. Students will be able to read and interpret short reading sections and instructions which include learned vocabulary pertaining to culture and information in each chapter.

4. Writing. Students will understand how to construct basic sentences and pose questions in German using learned vocabulary and word order. Students will build grammatically on sentence structure and paragraphs with each chapter, applying grammatical structures to include the Perfekt tense, and Accusative and Dative cases with corresponding prepositions.

5. Culture. Culture is an integral part of language learning and is included in chapter themes and reading sections within each chapter. Culture is also acquired through teacher presentation and how the language is used in context.

There are no prerequisites for taking GER 101.
