Overview of Assessment Types

Worksheets

You need to download, fill out and submit worksheets in the course. All but one (the Instrument Classification Worksheet) has an explanatory video to show you how to complete it.

Concert Report

You will attend a live concert and write a report as directed. If you are not able to attend in person, there is a virtual concert option given.  This is to be completed and submitted by the end of the course.

Quizzes

You are required to complete some quizzes which will test your mastery of the learning objectives.

Jazz Timeline Assessment

This is a visual assignment that gives you the freedom to structure it in different ways and you can use a variety of tools to make it while including the required components.

Reflection Activities

You will create some videos to reflect on the ETWM videos to help you learn from those videos. These assignments are short where you record yourself by answering the indicated questions for each assignment.

Discussions

Discussion activities are designed to encourage your critical thinking and many of them require engagement with other students in the class to cultivate more reflection and dialogue. Discussions that require a response have their initial post two days before the due date so there is time for the response posts that are required.

Midterm Exam

Midterm Exam covers material learned in Modules 1-6

Final Exam

Final exam is comprehensive, it coves materials learned in all Modules but more focused on Modules 7-11

Fieldwork Project

This is the major project for the course. You work on this over most of the course. It is centered on finding a musician to interview, researching that person and their topic, creating at least 10 interview questions based on that research, conducting the interview, writing it up as directed and creating a video presentation to teach the class what they learned in the project.
