In order to successfully complete this course, you must demonstrate your understanding of the course materials by:

• Completing all the assignments in each module, which includes Portales activities.
• Scoring at least a 60% average on the three proctored written exams
• Scoring at least a 60% average on the three proctored oral exams  
• Participating actively in the speaking and cultural reflection activities, online class meetings and Conversifi sessions. 

Here is an overview of all of the different types of assignments in the course. You can find detailed directions for the assignments and the grading criteria in the module where they are assigned.

Interactive Activities

The interactive activities provide you with an opportunity to reflect on the grammatical, cultural and interpersonal assignments in each module and on Portales.  They will also prepare you for the quizzes and the proctored assessments. In each lesson on Portales,  you will interact orally with virtual partners and classmates in synchronous activities via the Partner Chats.  Our online class meetings will give you the opportunity to meet with your instructor and classmates synchronously to practice interpersonal communication skills.  Finally, there will be a Cultural Reflection Activity in each lesson where you will interact with classmates via written language.  These written responses on the Cultural Reflection Activities are required to be thoughtful, reflective, and concise.

• The Introduction and cultural posts are done in English.  
• Discussion forum replies must initially be made to another student's initial posting. Replies must be 2-4 sentences. Responses like "I agree" or "Sounds good" are not acceptable.

Portales Activities

• You have to complete your assignments on Portales site weekly.  All the assigned sections from Portales are required and will be graded.  Unassigned sections are recommended only and will not be graded.
• Some assignments require writing or recording your voice, while others require listening and reading without submitting anything.
• You will receive a percentage grade in Portales and the grade will be transferred to Canvas. The percentage grade will be entered as a percentage in your Grade Center. For example, if you earn 100% grade in Portales Lección 6, it will be entered as 100% for Lección 6 in your Grade Center.

Quizzes

There are quizzes for lessons 6, 8, and 10. They are designed to prepare you for the proctored assessments.

Proctored Assessments

There are 3 written proctored assessments in this course.  Each assessment will contain sections that test listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, writing, and cultural awareness. This will be worth 100 points each.   You will have a two-hour time limit for each assessment.

You need to schedule an online meeting time with your instructor for the 3 oral assessments.  You do not need to be in a proctored testing setting for the oral assessments, but should be in a quiet, private environment without distractions.  The oral assessments are also worth 100 points each. We will use Zoom for oral assessments.
