- Participating actively in the discussion board activities and VoiceThreads
Here is an overview of all of the different types of assignments in the course. You can find detailed directions for the assignments and the grading criteria in the module where they are assigned.
Discussion Board Activities
The discussion board activities provide you with an opportunity to deeply reflect on the readings assigned to each module and apply them to a problem. They can prepare you for the quizzes and the proctored assessments. Online discussion allows time to weave your thoughts and reflect on the readings and your experiences. All of the posts on the discussion board are required to be thoughtful, reflective, and concise.
- Only the introduction can be in English. All other discussion forum postings must be in Spanish.
- Discussion forum replies must initially be made to another student's initial posting. Replies must be 2-4 sentences. Responses like "I agree" or "Sounds good" are not acceptable.
Portales Activities
- Click on each Assignments folder to find out which assignments must be completed weekly. All the assigned sections from Portales are required and will be graded. Unassigned sections are recommended only and will not be graded.
- Some assignments require writing or recording your voice, while others require listening and reading without submitting anything.
- You will receive a percentage grade in Portales and the grade will be transferred to Canvas. The percentage grade will be entered as a percentage in your Grade Center.
- The recommended assignments are instructional and practice activities. Although they are not required, they are recommended and will enhance your Spanish language acquisition and understanding of the Hispanic culture.
Speaking Activities
You will use the audio recorder in Canvas to engage in conversations with audio and video to complete assignments for the course.
Quizzes
There are chapter quizzes in each module. They can prepare you for the proctored assessments.
