Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to communicate using the conditional and future tenses and the present and past subjunctive mood. You will be able to employ the five skills as outlined below and interact as described: 

A. Listening You will be able to understand sentence-length utterances on a variety of topics, including personal interests, leisure activities and cultural events in Spanish-speaking countries. 

B. Speaking You will be able to initiate, sustain, and close a general conversation with a number of strategies appropriate to a range of circumstances and topics.

C. Reading You will be able to read consistently with full understanding simple connected texts dealing with basic personal and social needs about which you have personal interest and/or knowledge. You will be able to read brochures, articles from Spanish-language newspapers and magazines, and short examples of literary prose and poetry by Hispanic authors.

D. Writing You will able to meet most practical writing needs. You will be able to take notes in some detail on familiar topics and respond in writing to personal questions. You will be able to write simple letters, brief synopses and paraphrases, summaries of biographical data, work and school experience. 

E. Culture You will be able to acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the target language and its cultures.

At the conclusion of the course, it is expected that you will have an Intermediate-Mid proficiency level according to proficiency guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
