This course will introduce you to the concepts of probation, parole, and community corrections in theory and in practice.  The course will also explore the history, mission, implementation and administration of these criminal justice sanctions. 

This class will benefit those of you who wish to enter the field of probation and parole.  If probation is not your primary career choice, the course will nonetheless give you a great overview of the inner workings of community corrections and the probation realm.  It is advantageous for anyone entering the criminal justice field to know the basics of these correctional components. 

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

1. Examine the methods of probation, parole, and community corrections
2. Know and understand the philosophies of the varied correctional alternatives
3. Know and appreciate the role of probation and parole officers within the criminal justice field

Your course grade will be determined according to the following percentages based on a 1000- point scale.
