CHD 146: Math, Science and Social Studies for Young Children(3 Credits) |
Instructor: Susan Johnson |
Overview |
|
Welcome to CHD 146, offered by the Extended Learning Institute of Northern Virginia Community College.
CHD 146 has no formal prerequisites but many students are still concerned that they need a background in math or science before they take this course. You only need an appreciation of math as a way of learning and thinking or at least an open mind about the topics. Children learn through applying basic math concepts such as classification and comparison. They are natural born scientists who use their senses to explore their environment and learn about the world. In this course you will explore how children learn and how best to facilitate that learning. In addition to regular discussion boards and reflections you will design three projects one around each of the topic areas-math, science and social studies and take two quizzes in your local testing center. |
