CHI 201: Intermediate Chinese I (4 Credits)
Overview

This course is the first semester of a two-semester course.  It covers 5 lessons and consolidate the foundation which you have built in CHI 101 and 102 to develop language and cultural studies further.

You will learn through the following types of activities:

1) listening to audio recordings;

2) watching video clips;

3) completing assignments/projects;

4) interacting with the teacher and other students in the class via the discussion forum, the textbook's online learning center, and webinars  and,

5) taking part in an immersion activity (dining at a local Chinese restaurant and/or shopping at a local Chinese supermarket) towards the end of the semester (optional).

Course Prerequisites: Completion of CHI101 and CHI102 or permission from the instructor.

Objectives
 

If you do well in this course, you will be able to:

  1. understand more complicated sentences through buildup of vocabulary and syntax.
  2. narrate and describe a paragraph-length discourse on familiar topics with ease.
  3. comprehend short essays and dialogues;
  4. produce compositions (an essay about dinning,  weather, directions, birthday party, and seeing a doctor.)
