CHI 202: Intermediate Chinese I (4 Credits)
Overview

This course is the second semester of a two-semester course. It covers 5 lessons designed to strengthen the foundation that you have built in CHI 101,102 and 201. These lessons will help you continue to develop your language proficiency and cultural competencies further.

In listening and speaking, you will develop the ability to understand more complicated sentences through vocabulary buildup and understanding of the syntax; you will also develop your ability to narrate and describe a paragraph-length discourse on familiar topics with ease.

In reading and writing, you will develop your ability to comprehend short essays and dialogues and to produce compositions in several paragraphs.

You will learn through the following types of activities:

  1. Listening to audio recordings
  2. Watching video clips
  3. Completing assignments/projects
  4. Interacting with me and other students in the class via the discussion forum, the textbook's online learning center, and Online Meetings.
  5. taking part in organized immersion activities (such as field trip to visit the Chinese Embassy, dining at a local Chinese restaurant and/or visiting Smithsonian Museums to view Chinese art works and/or shopping at a local Chinese supermarket ) (Optional).
