ENF 2: Preparing for College English II (4 Credits)
Overview

The purpose of this course is to develop competency in reading and writing necessary to succeed in level 1 English courses. This course provides integrated reading and writing instruction for students who require extensive preparation to succeed in college-level English courses. Students will place into this course based on placement test score. Upon successful completion and faculty recommendation, students will move into Preparing for College English III (if they require additional preparation) or into college-level English (if they require no additional preparation). Credit is not applicable toward graduation.

Entry Level Competencies: Placement into Enf 2 via the college English placement test

  • demonstrate the use of pre-reading, reading and post-reading skills
  • pre-write, draft, revise, edit, and proofread your writing
  • expand vocabulary
  • identify and apply rhetorical strategies
  • identify the stated and implied main idea and major and minor supporting details of what you read and what you write
  • demonstrate critical thinking skills when reading and writing
  • write well-developed, coherent and unified college-level texts
  • identify, evaluate, integrate, and document sources properly

S - Pass Student has successfully completed ALL assignments which include but are not limited to:

  1. Each assigned grammar exercise with an 80% or higher
  2. Each assigned reading exercise with an 80% or higher
  3. Each assigned vocabulary exercise with an 80% or higher
  4. The MLA quiz with an 80% or higher
  5. The spider essay and its required revisions
  6. Each assigned Blackboard blog post and at least two responses to peers’ postings
  7. The Career Awareness Project & its formal essay, including required revisions
  8. The thematic formal essay, including required revisions
  9. The midterm exam
  10. The final exam, the Reflective Essay

R - Re-enroll Student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the course requirements but needs more time to complete them. Student must register for and complete Enf 2.

U - Fail Student's work is unacceptable or incomplete. Student stopped attending class and/or did not submit all required assignments. Student must take Enf 2 again.
