Surveys important photographers, processes, and historical influences of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Lecture 3 hours per week. Total 3 hours per week.
Familiarizes students with major photographers, processes and movements in photography from its beginnings to the present. Develop awareness of photography's historical and current role in the art world and in the larger society.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the work of major photographers
- Explain the significance of major photographers, techniques and movements from the beginning of photography to the present
- Analyze the role of photography in the art world and in society
- Relate their own photography to historical works and trends in the medium
