The Angel of Independence (aka El Ángel de la Independencia) is a victory column situated in the middle of a roundabout in Mexico City and dedicated to the Mexican Revolution of 1810. Construction on the column began in 1902 so that it would be finished in time for the centennial celebration in 1910 of Mexican independence. The monument now also includes an eternal flames and a mausoleum with the remains of heroes from the war of independence. Note the towering BANORTE building (El Banco Fuerte de México) in the background. |
