BEVERLY BLOIS has been dean of the Humanities Division, Northern Virginia Community College-Loudoun Campus, since 1992. He has been affiliated with NOVA-Loudoun since 1974 as professor of history and as executive director of statewide curricular initiatives for both the Council of Higher Education of Virginia (1985-86) and the Virginia Community College System (1990-91). He has also served as director of planning studies for George Mason University's Prince William Campus (1987-88).

Blois is founder (1991) of the Moscow-Fairfax Business Exchange Project, a collaboration of the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. He is a graduate and past board member of Leadership Loudoun and co-founder of both the Virginia Council on International Education (1990) and the Loudoun Higher Education Consortium (1992).  He was a member of the Loudoun County Economic Development Commission from 1993 to 2002, and served as a member of its executive committee 1995-97.  He currently serves on the steering committee of the Virginia Community College System/Virginia Council on International Education exchange program with institutions in the UK and the Netherlands.

Blois has proposed and overseen the development of educational programs designed specifically for the local and regional Northern Virginia market. These include one-semester and one-year certificate programs for customer service professionals, a one-year certificate program in the field of historic preservation, certificates in multimedia design and in digital recording technology, and (now under development) certificates in GIS/GPS and in suburban/urban planning.

He holds an MA in Russian history from the University of North Carolina and a PhD in higher education from George Mason University, and has additional graduate training in Slavic languages (Georgetown), economics (Duke), and management (Harvard). Blois is the author of books and articles in such fields as history and community college administration, and has designed, written, and implemented eight distance education courses. He has been named NVCC Alumni Federation Faculty Member of the Year (1986) and NVCC Educational Foundation Outstanding Educator (1988).  In 2005, he received an International Exemplary Leadership award from the League for Innovation Chair Academy.  He is listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers.  From 1997-2002, he served as an invited occasional columnist for the Loudoun Times-Mirror. Blois is the author of Russia and the Soviet Union since 1861 (University of Norther Carolina Extension Division Press, 1973) and of more than 20 articles published in the 1970s and 1980s in the Modern Encyclopedia of Russian and Soviet History.  Other publications include A History of Civilization (Study Guide), 2 vols., 3rd ed. (Prentice-Hall, 1996) and The Community College Presidency, with Vaughan and Mellander (AACC Press, 1994).  He has made presentations for national and international gatherings such as the World Congress of Slavists (Washington, 1985), the American Association of Community Colleges (Orlando, 1986), the Association of Historian-Archivists (Moscow, 1987), the Association of Community College Trustees (Chicago, 1994), and the American Historical Association (Chicago, 2000).
