||OK, you should go back and read what I wrote as an introduction for HIS 241.
All that is still valid as an introduction for HIS 242, but I would
like to add one specific word for our study of twentieth-century
Russia, "death." It is hard to conceptualize just how many
Russians died in the man-inflicted catastrophes of the twentieth
century (See Matthew White's website on Man-Made Megadeaths of the Twentieth century), which might even reach the figure of 100 million.
- Check some web (and some book)
selected resources, such as maps and
reference works, that we recommend to anyone interested in Russian
history and culture.
