Search Techniques |
- READ the screen when you visit a web site, especially for the first
time
- locate the database banner and review the navigational
options available - search, index, marked list, customized search, help
- study the screen layout and look for value-added
features - e-mail, search editing, searching by publication, word
or phrase;
- scan the screen for searching instructions - note the default search
- avoid "stop" words like "a, an, at,
in the, on" in your search, most online tools ignore them
- select the Search button provided rather
than pressing enter from the keyboard
- review the results list of hyperlinked articles
- select the most appropriate articles to review
- locate the help button if you have questions
