HOME Unit 4 - Magazines Web Options Bulletins and Announcements

Databases Defined Companies create and publish web-based databases containing information from  hundreds to thousands of magazines/journals  that provide:
  • organized collection of information displayed as records
  • records present  bibliographic information  arranged in   fields
  • fields include  author, article title, newspaper title, date, section, or page
  • amount of information provided might include : full text, abstracts, or citations
General Databases
  • ProQuest - magazines and newspapers
  • InfoTrac - magazines and current newspapers, tutorial
  • SIRS - Social Issues Resource Series - magazines
Subject Databases
Web Sites for Individual Magazines/Journals Many print magazines also publish a  web version  with links to related information, but  limited amount of archived issues.

Some magazines are called E-zines because they exist only on the web.  Consult The Zine & E-Zine Resource Guide for a list of e-zines on the web.

In-Library General Indexes
  • Readers Guide to Periodical Literature (1900 - present)
  • National Geographic
  • Scientific American
In-Library Subject Indexes
  • Biological & Agricultural Index
  • Art Index
  • Social Science Index
Article Availability
  • full text online
  • abstract online
  • campus library owns paper copy of article
  • microfilm or microfiche copies of back issues
  • bound volumes of back issues
  • intercampus loan with another NVCC campus library that owns the article; items  are then scanned to your home campus; fee based service
