Finding a Way to Teach Cultural Dimensions. Linda Beamer. Business Communication Quarterly, Sept 2000 v63 i3 p111
Beamer surveys a range of theories about culturaral variability, including work by Hofstede, Triandis, Hall, Kluckhohn, Condon and Yusef, and Gudykunst and Kim to develop an eight point heuristic model of cultural variability. Each of the eight points for the model create a continuum for examining a cultural profile: individualist vs. collectivist, horizontal organizational structures vs. hierarchical organizational structures, form distrusted vs. form trusted, self in control of human activity vs. other(s) in control of human activity, learning from experience vs. learning from authority, rules-observing vs. rules-bending, explicit communication vs. implicit communication, uncertainty-averse vs. uncertainty-tolerant.
