Organization of Perceptions: Gestalt Theory

Gestalt Principles of Visual Organization

Daniel Chandler explains concepts from Gestalt Psychology that influence how we organize our perceptions. Check out the examples he uses for figure and ground, proximity, surroundedness, pragnanz (the idea that the simplest explanation is often the one we jump to quickest), and how size and continuity of component parts of a physical object affect how we organize it in our mind's eye.

Max Wertheimer explains gestalt thinking as a philosophical system rooted in experience and the psychology examining parts in terms of a whole.
