We will do
a formal speech at our next face-to-face class meeting.
If you are
like many people, some sense of panic might even be setting in at the
very thought of giving a speech. That is a natural response. One of
our main goals for this class is to overcome fear in communicating and
develop greater self confidence. You will be more comfortable as you
learn more about the process of public speaking and give yourself plenty
of time to prepare. Our preparation will involve several activities:
|
We
will look at how to choose a topic, adapt the speech to the audience
and develop the specific goal as an informative or persuasive speech.
Explore research sources. |
|
Next
we will examine choices for developing the form of the speech by
outlining a plan for the organization of our speeches. |
|
We
will explore options for a method of delivery. After we have completed
the speeches, we will also do some assessments. |
During the time that we are working on this module,
you will be participating on a special bulletin board with your
speech preparation cohort for your postings for topics 15, 16, 17
and 18. This is a small group of fellow students, which is called
your public speaking cohort, with whom you will share your ideas
for planning your speech at each phase in the development of the
speech and provide feedback to one another. |
