    Bacteria belong to the Kingdom Monera.   Organisms in this kingdom are prokaryotes, i.e., their cells lack membrane bound organelles.  The nucleus is a membrane bound organelle.  Recall that the nuclear material is surrounded by a double membrane perforated with pores.  This nuclear membrane is usually referred to as the nuclear envelope.
