Arrange the following terms in the correct hierarchical pattern - simplest to most complex.

cell    macromolecule     organ    tissue    organelle     organism

The correct order is as follows:
macromolecule    organelle    cell     tissue    organ    organism

This is true because organisms are made up of organ systems; organs are composed of tissues; tissues are groups of cell - a given tissue type is a group of cells similar  in structure and function; organelles are found in cells; and macromolecules such as phospholipids and proteins are the chemicals that organelles are built from.
Be sure to study the objectives at the end of the cell unit on cell differentiation and multicellularity and work the program in your study guide on tissues.  You should know the four types of animal tissues and the difference between permanent tissue and meristematic tissue in plants.
