12-14. Match the basic processes of photosynthesis listed below with questions 12 - 14.
a. light dependent reactions
b. light independent reactions
c. both light dependent and light independent reactions

12. reduction of CO2 to glucose ___b____ In the light independent reactions, the light energy trapped in the light dependent reactions (which is now chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH + H+), is used to reduce CO2 to glucose.  This occurs in the stroma of the chloroplast.

13. light-energized electrons ___a____   The energized electrons are the electrons in the chlorophyll molecule.  The energy of these electrons provide the energy to indirectly build ATP and reduce NADP. How are these molecules used in the second stage of photosynthesis - the light independent reactions?  If you can't answer this question, look at question #12 above.

14. splitting of water ___a____  Light energy in the light dependent reactions is also used to split water into H ions, electrons, and oxygen gas.  Thus, the oxygen gas given off in photosynthesis comes from water.
