Although glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm, the citric acid cycle and chemiosmotic  phosphorylation take place in the mitochondria.  As you recall, most of the ATP generated in aerobic respiration occurs in the mitochondria; thus, the mitochondria is sometimes referred to as the powerhouse of the cell.
