9.  For each glucose molecule, glycolysis produces

a. 36 ATPs                                     b. citric acid & 36 ATPs
c. ethyl alcohol, CO2, & ATP    d. 2 pyruvates, 2 ATP, & 2 NADH + 2 H+

Note that in glycolysis

  1. Only 2 ATP molecules out of a potential 36-38 molecules are generated.

  2. Some of the energy in glucose is now in the form of chemical energy  in the reduced NAD molecules.

  3. Most of the chemical energy in glucose is in the 2 molecules of pyruvate.
