11.  Which of the following does NOT occur in DNA replication?  The original double helix

a.  unwinds                                                                 b.  bonds between base pairs are broken
c.  the unpaired strands split into codons        d.  all occur

Look at Figure 14.6 of DNA Replication in your text.  Note that the original blue strands unwind, the hydrogen bonds between the base pairs are broken, and each original strand serves as a template for the formation of a new strand.  The end result is two identical double stranded molecules.  Each consists of an original strand and a newly formed strand.  This type of replication is referred to as semiconservative replication.
