My
Expectations: You are expected to do your very best to improve your
own reading skills and to support other students in all aspects of the class. I
expect you to behave with consideration to others and with honesty and integrity.
Students who limit the ability of others to be comfortable and successful in the class or
violate standards of academic honesty will be withdrawn from the course.
Class Meetings and
Conferences: This class will meet several times during the semester, sometimes
for instructional presentations or lectures and sometimes for exams. You are
required to attend these sessions unless you have made arrangements with me before the
scheduled class meeting. See Important Dates.
Conferences are to discuss concerns or
questions about the classwork. I may request one, and so may you. We will work
out a time that is convenient for both of us. It may be in person or over the phone.
Communications: Even
though most of our communications will be at a distance, I expect you to follow the same
standards for communicating with each other over the internet as you would in a college
classroom. You should be courteous and respectful of diverse points of view.
You should also be encouraging to each other. See rules of Netiquette
for further discussion.
Grading: To pass this class, you must complete the literature and
research projects and receive a grade of 70% or better on two of the three quizzes and the
exam covering the history textbook chapter and the final exam on the New Deal and
the Depression. You must complete all of the homework assignments you are
required to do in each unit in order to take each final exam or do each final
activity. Assignments will vary for each student based on the pre-test you
take on each unit. You may test out of some of them.
Exams: Some
exams will be take-home exams and some will be taken in the Woodbridge campus Testing
Center. I will include in the directions where you will take it. If it is a
take-home exam, I will e-mail you the URL for the exam when you have completed all
of the required assignments preceding it. If the exam is to be taken in the Testing
Center, I will place a copy of your exam in the Testing Center when you have completed all
of the required assignments preceding it and will let you know it is there.
You must bring with you a photo identification in order to take your exam. Exams
must be taken by the deadline given in the syllabus. For information on
its hours, call 878-5616.
Accommodations for
Disabilities: If you need special accommodations because of a learning
disability or any other disability, please let me know as soon as possible so we can make
these arrangements.
Perfumes: Please
do not come to the required class meetings wearing any strong perfumes, colognes, or other
fragrant products.
Syllabus Changes: This
syllabus may change from time to time. Changes will be announced in advance.
