 Reading Purpose:

The chapter describes basic methods by which data may be represented and transmitted within a computer and the representation and manipulation of numeric data, non-numeric data and data structures. It describes the advantages and disadvantages of data representation and transmission methods, alternative numbering systems and their use in data representation.
