Relational Maintenance and Adaptation

 Successful relationships require ongoing maintenance. We adapt to be able to deal with the tension between relational dialectics of autonomy and connection, between novelty and predictability and between being open and closed off from one another. We also strive to respond constructively to relational distress and conflict.
