GUIDELINES FOR REPORT WRITING

Your report  should include the following labeled sections.

ABSTRACT:
Briefly summarize your project  by explaining the behaviors you attempted to
change or observe, the procedure you used, the measured outcomes and the conclusion.

PURPOSE:
Clearly state the intent of your project.

METHOD:
This section refers to the exact steps in your experiment or project.  Include your actual PROCEDURE, describe your SUBJECTS, and  include the MATERIALS  used.  This section should be written clearly and with enough detail to enable another experimenter to duplicate your project.

RESULTS:
In this section you display and discuss the data you collected. Your results should be expressed clearly and factually. You may want to compute a mean or a correlation to summarize your data. This is not a section for conclusions. Just state the facts you obtained. Graphs and tables are excellent aids for you to use as you explain the data to your reader. A table showing the number of dwarfs remembered  in each condition in the memory assignment would be useful. If you use a spreadsheet or a word processing program to make your chart you should be able to copy it to your clipboard and then post it to the Forum.

CONCLUSION/DISCUSSION:
This section will tie together all of the important factors of your report.
It provides you with an opportunity to:

  • explain or speculate on why things happened the way they did
  • critically analyze the meaning of your project results
  • discuss the problems encountered
  • suggest methods to change or improve the procedures you used in your project.
