Introductory E-Mail Letter

Purpose of the Letter
To introduce yourself. Tell your instructor a bit about yourself and why you are taking biology. In the directions below are some suggestions for what to include.
To send your instructor your e-mail address. In this class, the primary mode of communication will be by e-mail.
Email Accounts
You have been assigned a VCCS email address for use in this and other courses that you take through NVCC or other colleges in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The VCCS requires that you use this email account for any course-related email communication so that we can insure your privacy as required by law. If you don't know your VCCS email address, go to the Student E-mail Account page and search for your address. If you need help using the email account, read the Webmail Manual or contact the IT Help Desk at 703-426-4141.
Please check your email regularly. That is how we will inform you of grades, approaching due dates, or other private, course-related information. We will also reply to your emails at your VCCS account. We will not accept or respond to email sent by you from any account other than the one provided by the VCCS.
Directions
By this point, you should have read your instructor's introductory message to you.  Now it is your turn!

Write an e-mail message to your instructor. In the subject line of the e-mail, write Bio 101 and your name. In the message area of your e-mail, you may include information about the following:

  • Your background. Explain your student status, your program and year. Describe any paid or volunteer work that you do.
  • Career plans and goals that relate to this course, if any.
  • Why you enrolled in the course and what you hope to accomplish by taking the course.
  • A statement about yourself that will help me remember you.
Send your message. Obviously, your message will not be graded.  However, when the message is received, you will earn 20 points toward your final grade. We look forward to hearing from you!
