Molecular Genetics - Optional Internet Project

Read The First Human Cloned Embryo by J. Cibelli, R. Lanza, and M. West in the November 2001 issue of  Scientific American.  Many of the links in the paper are helpful.

After reading the article, write a paper containing the following  parts.  Be sure to use your own words in all parts of this paper.

Briefly describe how cloning is done and what is accomplished by this procedure.

Discuss, in one or two paragraphs, the area in the article that you found most interesting.

Explore one of the sidebars in the article and briefly discuss what you learned

What ethical issues are raised by this procedure?  Give both the pro and con sides of these issues and then your opinion.

Submit this project before you do exam 5 (you will see a note asking you to submit this next week - week 15 of your enrollment).   This project is worth a possible 50 extra points.  You are not required to do this project!
