Planning Your Work

You may find that Mendelian genetics is the easiest unit to date. If so you can zip right through all the material and assignments for the week.  If this describes you, don't bother to read the rest of the page!

If this doesn't sound like you, here are some suggestions that may help:

Be sure to see the genetics videos.

Don't try to work the problems until you have seen the genetics videos, read the textbook and study guide assignments, and check  your answers to the study guide questions.

Contact me if you've done the work and you're still having trouble understanding the material. Concepts in genetics are like a light bulb being turned on.  Some folks may need to spend a fairly long period of time trying to work the problems before the light bulb goes on.  However, trust me, it usually does go on!

Consider taking two weeks to complete this unit.  You can take an Incomplete grade at the end of your enrollment and spend an extra week or two completing the course. Now I'm not talking about going on vacation!   However, it's better to take a little longer and be sure you understand the material before proceeding.  The ability to work at your own pace is one of the advantages of taking courses at ELI.

If you have spent two weeks on the work and are still having trouble, be sure to contact me.  Maybe we can arrange a meeting either at ELI or the Alexandria Campus.
