Unit 1

Characteristics of life and kingdoms of life
Ecology
Define and give examples of the terminology used in ecology ( objective 4).
Distinguish between the flow of energy and the flow of matter in an ecosystem (explain the diagrams on pages 1-5 and 1-6).
Define and give examples of food chains, food webs, and trophic positions in a food chain.
Know the general equations for photosynthesis (page 1-7) and cellular respiration (page 1-7).
Evolution
Define evolution and explain how natural selection may produce evolution.
Study the evolution objectives in Unit 1 (pages 1-12 to 1-15) as well as the evolution objectives in Unit 7 (pages 7-8 to 7-10).
