Using
the Text
|
The
reading in the textbook (Biology:Concepts and Connections Third
Edition by Campbell, Mitchell, and Reece) serves as background information
for helping you to understand and learn the various objectives and
aids in the Study Guide.
 |
Note
that the text chapters are arranged in numbered sections (i.e.,
1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.). The numbered sections of the chapters
are located on the page side margins and easily found
by thumbing through the pages. Your reading assignments
are given using these numbered chapter sections.
 |
See
if you can find 36.10. The title for this section
in chapter 36 is "Food chains interconnect, forming
food webs".
|
|
 |
Take
advantage of the chapter summaries and quizzes. The
answers to the quizzes are in the back of the text.
 |
Look
at the chapter summary for chapter 4 on pages 68-69.
The summary is followed by a quiz on page 69.
Note that the answers to the quiz are on page 789.

The
text comes with a CD, the Interactive Study Partner. This
requires the use of three plug-ins: Flash, Shockwave,
and Quick Time. Both Flash and Shockwave can be downloaded
at www.macromedia.com/
This is free. If you have difficulty installing
these programs or using the CD, the technology help number
for the CD is 1-800-677-6337.
When you use the CD, remember to focus on the Objectives that
you are responsible for. For example, in week one you
are required to read a portion of Chapter 34; however, the
assignment does not include reading about terrestrial biomes.
The focus of the CD is on terrestrial biomes. Thus,
you won't find the CD helpful in chapter 34. In weekly
assignments, I'll note points where I think you will find
the CD helpful.
